A number of Everton fans have waxed lyrical about Goodison Park academy ace Ellis Simms following his latest display for the Toffees Under-23s.
The 19-year-old made it three goals from his last two games by netting a brace for Everton’s U23s in Monday’s Premier League 2 meeting with Derby.
Simms opened the scoring in the 12th minute on Merseyside after latching on to Einar Iversen’s slipped pass, the only goal of the first half.
Joe Anderson made it two just after the break and, though the Rams pulled one back in the 54th minute, Josh Bowler restored Everton’s two-goal advantage before the hour.
Simms wrapped up the scoring in the 87th minute with a clinical finish for a 4-1 victory, the Toffees building on their impressive 3-0 win over Leicester a week ago.
The young striker has shown huge progress over the past two seasons, following up a 37-goal campaign for the U18s in 2018-19 with eight in 15 for the U23s last term.
Though plenty of Everton fans are delighted to see Simms doing so well, there have also been calls for him to either be loaned out or given first-term football instead of staying put with the U23s.
Below is some of the social media reaction to Simms’ latest display:

Interested to know how far Simms is away from first team football. When you look at greenwood etc getting the break through. Unsworth will ruin him if stays down there to long.
