‘Can’t wait’: Some West Ham fans react as Pablo Fornals shares Champions League dream

Some West Ham United fans have been reacting on social media after Pablo Fornals told the London Stadium outfit’s official club website that the Irons should be competing in Europe.

Fornals admits it is a dream of his to one day compete in the Champions League, but accepts that a place in UEFA’s premier club competition may be unattainable for David Moyes’ side this season.

The Hammers enter the weekend fifth in the Premier League table and three points behind rivals Chelsea, who can no longer ensure that a top-three finish is needed for a Champions League spot by beating Manchester City in the Final after Arsenal’s Europa League exit.

West Ham are well placed to compete in the Europa League next term in fifth and with as favourable a run to the end of the season as their rivals, and Fornals feels the competition offers a great tournament and where the east London outfit should be.

“I never played in the Champions League and it’s one of my goals, of course, but if not and the second option is the Europa League, I think it’s another great tournament to be in for us because we are West Ham, we are a top team and we need to play against the best teams,” he said.

Fornals played 19 career games in the Europa League during his time at Villarreal, who beat Arsenal in this year’s Semi-Final 2-1 on aggregate to secure their place in the Final against Manchester United.
