Arsenal ace Emile Smith Rowe has waxed lyrical about Gunners teammate Mesut Ozil, telling The National that he “can’t think of anything better” than to train alongside him every day.

The Arsenal academy graduate is widely considered one of the best young talents at the Emirates Stadium and has made six appearances for the Gunners across the Europa League, League Cup and Premier League this campaign.

Smith Rowe has made 12 competitive appearances for the Gunners in all competitions, scoring four goals, whilst making three further appearances for Bundesliga side RB Leipzig during a loan spell at the start of 2019.

The 19-year-old is currently on loan at Huddersfield Town and has made 10 appearances, scoring once and claiming three assists, and is planning to see the Championship season out with the Terriers as they seek to avoid relegation.

By contrast, Ozil is a veteran with 254 competitive Arsenal appearances to his name, a spell at Real Madrid, 92 Germany caps and an illustrious CV which includes a World Cup, a La Liga title and three FA Cups.

“At Arsenal, I look up to Mesut Ozil a lot,” Smith Rowe told The National. “I watch him in training and the movement he has and the little touches he does. For me to train with him every day, I can’t think of anything better.”

Smith Rowe and Ozil are two players at opposing ends of their professional careers, and while the latter is currently in the Arsenal first team, his future at the Emirates Stadium is in doubt, with his contract expiring at the end of next season, so there’s a possibility that the former could soon take up his mantle.

According to Yorkshire Live, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen to take a look at Smith Rowe in pre-season before deciding on his options either for Premier League action or a further loan – so it’s definitely a case of watching this space, particularly if the young Gunner has a bright end to the season with Huddersfield.
