Tottenham Hotspur have signed Estonian youth international Maksim Paskotsi from Flora Tallinn, according to their official website.

The 17-year-old centre-back has signed a three-year deal with Spurs after an undisclosed fee was agreed between the two clubs, and will join the North Londoners’ Under-18 setup.

Despite not turning 18 until next March, Paskotsi has already made two senior appearances for Flora, and has been a regular in the reigning Estonian champions’ matchday squad.

According to Flora director Norbert Hurst, the player had a trial at Tottenham’s Enfield Training Centre in August, after Spurs expressed an interest the previous month, and passed with flying colours.

Discussing his move with the official Flora website, Paskotsi said: “I can’t describe how happy I am right now! It is a very difficult but at the same time powerful step in my career.”

While one Tottenham move has dominated the headlines in recent days, it’s great to see the youth ranks bolstered with the arrival of a highly talented youngster.

For a 17-year-old to be a matchday squad regular for his country’s most dominant team speaks volumes to his talent and shows he’s destined for the next level.

With three academy centre-backs leaving Spurs this year – Luis Binks, Benjamin Watt and Maxwell Statham – and Timothy Eyoma going out on loan, there was a need to bring someone new in.

Paskotsi will certainly be a young prospect to watch – if he shines for the Under-18s, he’ll step up to the Under-23s in little time, and Jose Mourinho has often kept an eye on their games for the cream of the crop.
