Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira has distanced himself from Daniel Ek and his Arsenal takeover attempt after initially supporting it.

The Spotify billionaire publicly expressed his interest in buying Arsenal from the Kroenkes. He teamed up with Vieira, Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp, but his attempt failed.

The three Arsenal legends remained in support of Ek, who is prepared to wait to fulfil his dream. Vieira, however, is no longer a part of the group as he’s the manager of one of Arsenal’s London rivals now.

The Eagles boss was quizzed about his involvement with Ek and his takeover attempt. Vieira admitted that he wanted Arsenal’s direction to change back then, but he has decided to distance himself from the group now.

Patrick Vieira: I can’t support Daniel Ek now

The legendary Frenchman, who publicly backed Ek a few months ago, said, as per The Daily Mail: “I was just expressing myself as Patrick, ex-Arsenal football player.

“That comment was based on how the direction was going and I was talking to somebody who had maybe a different view and way of taking Arsenal Football Club and this is the reason why with Dennis and Thierry we were involved in the situation that Arsenal was.

“I am in a different position than a couple of months ago. So, I am not going to express myself in the same way when I was just an ex-Arsenal football player.

“When you’re looking at the situation at the time it was clear the Kroenke family was making the statement that the club was not for sale and then I think everything was over. You or anybody can’t buy a football club if this football club is not for sale.”

The Kroenkes won’t sell Arsenal

Stan and Josh Kroenke made it perfectly clear that they will not sell Arsenal Football Club. The Americans have no intention of walking away, even if Ek offers them a ton of money.

Most Arsenal fans aren’t too happy with that stance, but there’s nothing they can do to change things. The Kroenkes will stay at Arsenal for the foreseeable future, but don’t forget about Ek just yet.

The Spotify tycoon has promised that he is willing to wait as long as it will take to takeover the club he supports. However, he will have to do so without Vieira, who is no longer a part of the group due to his new allegiance.
