Liverpool fans have been left stunned over their valuation of Xherdan Shaqiri.
On the way out
Gianluca Di Marzio claimed last night that Shaqiri was on the verge of leaving Liverpool to join Lazio in a deal worth just under £7 million.
That would see the Reds make a loss on a player who they signed for £13 million from Stoke City just three years ago.
Liverpool are generally excellent at getting the maximum amount of value for their fringe players.
However, their willingness to let Shaqiri go on the cheap has taken many supporters by surprise.
And there are huge amounts of Liverpool fans who feel that they are letting the playmaker go too cheaply.
Not a fair price?
Shaqiri is 29-years-old, so has little re-sale value, but for a player of his ability the price-tag does seem on the low side.
Liverpool may have simply felt that selling Shaqiri is the best option for them, given his advancing years – and the emergence of Harvey Elliott, who can play in the front line.
But at his current price, there may be an argument to suggest that keeping him around would have been more valuable, as the fee is unlikely to boost their own chances of landing incoming additions too much.
