Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Niall Huggins had joined Sunderland on a permanent basis.
What’s the story?
Well, this is a strange one.
Huggins was seemingly one of Marcelo Bielsa’s brightest prospects at Elland Road, and he appeared to have a big future in Yorkshire.
The 20-year-old even made his Premier League debut after Bielsa handed him 37 minutes against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Now, the full-back has departed for Wearside, where he is expected to receive regular first-team football at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland are clearly recruiting a certain type of player this summer, after also taking promising defender Dennis Cirkin from Tottenham.
Why have Leeds sold Niall Huggins?

Well, we believe it’s because Bielsa didn’t want to hinder his career.
The Argentine practically admitted just that when asked about Huggins.
As quoted by Leeds Live, Bielsa said that he would be hindering the youngster if he kept him at the club, knowing he has little chance of first-team football.

In that respect, we feel Bielsa has sold Huggins for the greater good of his career.
If that is true, it would’ve been wise to include a buyback clause in the terms of his move to Sunderland – sadly, there doesn’t seem to be any sign of one.
Nevertheless, let’s see what the Leeds fans on Twitter have been saying about the club’s announcement…
