Ben Davies – Tottenham
A former Swansea player having come up through the youth ranks, Davies now finds himself as understudy to Danny Rose at Spurs. The two left-backs were alternating during the early part of this campaign but it appears that Rose is now Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice. Davies will be a key player for Wales in the upcoming European Championships and with World Cup Qualifiers starting in September, securing regular first team football must be his priority.
What would he bring to the club?
Having filled in for Neil Taylor when his Welsh teammate suffered an unfortunate long-term injury in 2012, Davies had established himself as the number one left-back at the club prior to his move to Spurs. Davies would add more physical presence and solidity to a Swansea team that can look lightweight at times and bring in the experiences of playing for a title chasing club this season.
The Swansea style also suits Davies more than Spurs’ with The Lilywhites needing their full-backs to be attacking outlets as their attacking midfielders like to drift into the centre of the pitch. Swansea on the other hand, play with traditional wingers such as Jefferson Montero and Wayne Routledge, placing more emphasis on the defensive duties of their full-backs, the side of the game Davies is far more comfortable with.
