Will Hughes (Derby)

Having racked up over 100 appearances for Derby despite his tender age of 21, Will Hughes has been a regular in a struggling Derby team, who have fallen well short of pre-season expectations. On a personal level, Hughes has turned in a string of impressive performances, which makes you question whether now more than ever, the centre midfielder will be looking for a new challenge.

On the back of a hugely disappointing 2015-16 season, in which he damaged his ligaments and was out for most of the season on the opening day, Hughes looks like he is making up for lost time. The midfielder possesses a multitude of skills desirable for his position, being strong on the ball, being able to thread incisive passes as well as rotating possession for the good of his team. Not stopping short as just a ball playing midfielder, Hughes is equally as combative, making an almost league high number of tackles a game.

Despite his injury, the Derby player was supposedly being courted by Mourinho in this summer’s window, and prior to his injury was chased by many Premier League teams. However, the former England U-21 international might be happy settling for a mid-table team as a starting point in the league. In the long term, it shouldn’t be a surprise if Hughes was lining up for an English club in the Champions League.
