Can Rotherham United’s new signings propel them to Championship safety?

Luciano Becchio:

The Millers have also brought in striker Luciano Becchio who is best known for his time with Leeds United before a move to Norwich pretty much saw his career suffer a downwards spiral. The Argentine is a proven goal scorer at Championship level but my worry with him now is whether he can get Rotherham ten goals from now until the end of the season.

A striker who can do that will most likely save a club from relegation. This could be seen at Birmingham when Federico Macheda was brought in on loan. He scored ten goals between February and May to help secure The Blues’ Championship status on goal difference. A few years ago, I would have said that Becchio would be the man to get those goals for Rotherham but, after the past few years and only two league goals in over three years, is Redfearn clutching at straws?

Incorporating seven new signings into a team is a tough thing to do and one which must be done quickly if Rotherham are going to avoid relegation. There have been encouraging signs at the New York Stadium in recent weeks but there is simply just no consistency. Losing 4-1 at home to teams around you also really doesn’t bode well. The Millers need to get their act together quickly and get those new signings settled quickly otherwise I don’t see anything but relegation back to League One for them.
