Tottenham are reportedly keeping tabs on young centre-forward sensation Josh Maja at League One club Sunderland.
According to the Mirror, Spurs are eyeing the 19-year-old prodigy alongside Premier League duo Manchester City and Southampton.
The report details that interest has surfaced due to the fact that his contract expires at the end of the season and he was previously on the books at Man City as a youngster.
Spurs have a long-term problem in the striker department, where they have been unable to find a suitable back-up option to talisman Harry Kane that can fill in when required.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side need a quality second-choice forward, but could Maja be the perfect understudy to Kane?
Spurs have shown in the past they are not afraid to recruit from the lower leagues and have enjoyed great success since picking up Dele Alli from League One.
Maja has been in sensational form at the beginning of the new campaign in England’s third-tier, scoring nine goals in his 12 league games.
It could take a young hungry striker to fill the void perfectly as understudy to Kane and Sunderland’s rising star certainly looks destined for the top, while he would benefit massively from learning from the best people around him.
But a jump up to the Premier League this season perhaps seems a little far-fetched considering he’s still adjusting to senior football, and he may be one for the future.
