Paris Saint Germain are intent on a huge marquee signing this summer, and Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho is high on the list as manager Unai Emery looks to bolster his side’s attacking options.
It is, however, believed that the Brazilian is second choice to Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe, according to L’Equipe. The 18-year-old, who took Europe by storm last season, has been subject to intense transfer speculation this summer, but the Parisian club face an extremely difficult challenge in landing the teenage star. Coutinho could quickly become PSG’s top target instead.
Any deal to bring the ‘magician’ to Paris would certainly be costly, but PSG are one of the few clubs in world football who will be able to afford the Brazilian at any price.
Not only do they have the financial power, but have also are becoming one of the leading European clubs and, under the management of Unai Emery, they are a very attractive destination for any player.
Of course, Liverpool are unlikely to let their star man go. In his five or so years in England, Reds fans have fallen in love with their little Brazilian and he has developed into one of the Premier League’s best attacking talents. He signed a new five-year contract last year, keeping him at the club until 2022.

Jurgen Klopp sees Coutinho as his main-man, shifting the 25-year-old into a midfield role in order to get the most of his creative and goal-scoring talents. The ex-Inter man had his best season at Anfield in 2016/17, scoring 13 goals and assisting seven. He is the heartbeat of this Liverpool side, who are on the up under Klopp, and they will not let him go easy.
However, a huge figure may be enough to persuade the Merseyside club to let go. Although the Reds are in a sound financial position such a large figure would be difficult to turn down, especially as Liverpool have targets themselves this summer transfer window – most notably Naby Keita, who has been valued £70 million by his club, according to the Daily Star.
The Coutinho speculation makes for an intriguing transfer saga that is worth keeping a close eye on.
