Eddie Gray has praised Leeds United ace Tyler Roberts and raised the interesting point that centre-forwards thrive off goals, something he is certainly doing right now.
The 19-year-old netted the winner in a 1-0 win over Preston North End on Tuesday and has scored three goals in five Championship appearances, making a seamless step up to the first team.
He has seized the opportunity that was handed to him following a spate of injuries and left manager Marcelo Bielsa with a huge dilemma, as first-choice striker Kemar Roofe edges closer to a return from injury.
Gray raises a fair point that Roberts is a player full of confidence, so would it be right to axe him as soon as Roofe is back in the fold.
“He took his opportunity and took it very well, strikers lives by goals and he will be delighted to get that one. Three goals for the boy, he’s done very very well,” Gray told LUTV.
Bielsa will surely be left scratching his head about whether or not to persist with pacy attacker Roberts, who has certainly proven he will play an important role in any promotion bid.
But the likelihood is that 25-year-old Roofe will come back in immediately when available, as he was the outstanding player at Elland Road before his injury setback and is a little further along in his progression than teenager Roberts.
