Can Jonas Lossl finally get his Everton chance after 16 months on the sidelines?

Last weekend saw Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti decide to drop England number one goalkeeper Jordan Pickford after a period of poor form for his club.

The Everton stopper has been struggling to maintain consistency for a number of weeks now and Roma loanee Robin Olsen was given the nod for the fixture with Newcastle United last time out.

The Swedish stopper performed well so is likely to retain his place, but will one man at Goodison Park be wondering if he deserves a chance.

Jonas Lossl was brought in by Marco Silva in the summer of 2019 to act as back-up for Pickford last season.

As reported by Spotrac, Lossl signed a £28,000-a-week deal at Everton following his free transfer exit from Huddersfield Town but the Danish international has never had a chance to shine at the club.

In fact, he even headed back to Huddersfield on loan for the second half of last season following his early struggles at Everton.

The 31-year-old has never made an appearance for Everton since his move and whilst he is not a world-class goalkeeper, he must be wondering what he needs to do to actually get his chance on Merseyside.

Perhaps Ancelotti will give him a chance to try and stake his claim for a first-team spot at Everton but, if not, then surely Lossl will need to start considering his long-term future at the club.
