Andre Ayew

Hull City were not miserly in front of goal during 2015/16 by any means, in fact scoring the third most goals of any Championship side. However, their reliance on Abel Hernandez (20 league goals) was all too clear and although they do have midfielders capable of popping up with the odd cracker – Robert Snodgrass and Mohamed Diamé being the most prominent examples – they need a more consistent source from their strikers.

None of Sone Aluko, Chuba Akpom or Adama Diomande were particularly prolific, and some would argue that they are far too profligate with their opportunities to be a viable source of goals for The Tigers in the Premier League. Steve Bruce has acknowledged the importance of Hernandez to his team on many occasions, and so it only makes sense to bring in quality back-up to the Urugayan.

Andre Ayew would be a fine choice for Hull City in my opinion, seemingly fulfilling every demand. Having enjoyed a solid start to life in the Premier League with Swansea City since arriving last summer, the Ghanaian will now be a much more complete player for his experiences. 12 goals in 34 league appearances for a side that were hardly making strides in the division tells its own story, and if he were able to match that for The Tigers in 2016/17, those strikes would go some way to avoiding relegation.

Capable of playing up top with Abel Hernandez in a 4-4-2, or operating anywhere in behind the Uruguayn in Steve Bruce’s apparent preferred 4-2-3-1 system, this versatility is never a bad trait to possess. Furthermore, Ayew suits the style which Hull tend to play with, thriving off balls into the channels rather than longer and more direct passes which would require an aerially dominant presence. The former Marseille man is tremendously hard-working, therefore fits Steve Bruce’s blue-print down to a tee.
