Can forgotten man Sinclair use Sunderland goal to kick-start his career?

Sunderland progressed to the next round of the EFL Trophy last night with a 2-0 win over Notts County.

Fielding a side which predominantly consisted of reserve players, Sunderland managed to beat League Two Notts County to move to the next round.

And one forgotten man got his name on score sheet last night. Jerome Sinclair scored just his second goal since his summer loan switch to Sunderland.

But can that give the young striker the confidence to kick-start his career after a forgettable start to life in senior football?

But despite having a poor game, the 22-year-old scored a goal, converting a penalty that Benji Kimpioka had won.

Sinclair is formerly of Liverpool’s academy and Watford snapped him up, but his progress has since stalled.

An unproductive loan spell at Birmingham City was followed by a poor 2017/18 campaign back at Watford.

By dropping down to League One, Sinclair would have expected to take the third tier by storm but it hasn’t quite gone to plan just yet.

However, Sinclair’s goal will be a much-needed confidence boost.

With teenager Josh Maja preferred to him, Sinclair knows that he needs to start scoring more regularly to kick-start his stalling career.
