Can defender Davinson Sanchez seize Tottenham chance?

Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez has been presented with the perfect window to force his way back into the best starting XI.

Spurs have confirmed that centre-back Jan Vertonghen will be sidelined for the next two games before the international break, while key players Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele and Serge Aurier are also out injured.

Vertonghen’s hamstring injury leaves the North London club short at the back ahead of the Champions League clash at home to Barcelona and the Premier League game with Cardiff this week.

Colombia international Sanchez is the obvious replacement in the heart of defence and it looks like he will get the chance to prove his qualities alongside Toby Alderweireld, while versatile ace Eric Dier could also form a back three.

The 22-year-old was colossal last season for Spurs and is a highly-rated youngster that proved his quality in English football, but the return of Alderweireld has seen him slip to third in the centre-back pecking order.

Sanchez could make himself undroppable for Spurs if he turns in a world-class display against Barcelona, something that the athletic defender is capable of doing.

He has looked steady in his six appearances so far this season and just needs another huge display to ensure Pochettino doesn’t drop him again.

Spurs have a talented individual in Sanchez – who earns £60,000-a-week, according to spotrac.com – that is good enough to win back his permanent position in the team.
