Have Arsenal blown their chance?

At the turn of the year, Arsenal faced three crucial games against Liverpool, Stoke and Chelsea. These three matches were arguably key in deciding Arsenal’s title challenge. Against The Reds, Arsenal were outplayed for the first twenty minutes but came out with a draw, even though they should probably have finished with all three points. The Gunners then dropped points against Stoke and as per usual, lost to Chelsea. Arsenal then followed the loss to Chelsea with a draw to Southampton and now sit fourth; a fall from grace considering that Wenger’s side were at the summit of the league when 2016 began.

Before the turn of the year, Arsenal had been superb. Mesut Özil was seemingly leading a team showing title-winning form, in a league that no one seemed to want to win. This year’s Premier League has been incredibly hard to predict, therefore you couldn’t count Arsenal out just yet. Every team has been inconsistent; with the possible exception of Leicester City, and every team in the top 10 is capable of beating each other. With all this said, Arsenal’s title hopes are not completely over, but it is starting to slip out of their hands. Arsene Wenger even admitted that their title hopes are “stuttering” adding, “we need to respond quickly away from home now”. Arsenal might not have blown their title chances yet, but after the last four results, the slump must be arrested and soon!
