One of the worst kept secrets in football these days is that Arsenal always suffer a mid-season dip in form. Following a recent frustrating draw at home to Southampton, Arsenal have now dropped to fourth place after having been top at the turn of the year. Wenger’s side has suffered a major dip in form, having taken three points from a possible 12. Furthermore, Arsene Wenger also risked the wrath of the fans by only adding Mohamed Elneny during the January transfer window. Arsenal have been one of the best sides in the league so far this season, but now are under huge pressure in a very competitive league, and at crucial time too.

Are Arsenal good enough to win the Premier League?

This year’s league has been one of the most competitive in recent memory. Every place is up for grabs and interchangeable. Most teams strengthened heavily in the summer, apart from Arsenal. The Gunners did however address the long problem of not having a world-class ‘keeper. Petr Cech has been a revelation after his £10 million move from Chelsea. The experienced keeper has arguably save Arsenal a number of times and it is debatable whether Arsenal would be near the top if it weren’t for him.

Although Cech’s brilliance is undeniable, Arsenal needed another striker and a holding midfielder. Yes, you can look towards Manchester United and say that spending money doesn’t guarantee success, but Arsenal are at a different stage to their rivals from Old Trafford. United are transitioning, while Arsenal are looking to build on two FA cups and finally win that elusive league title. At the very least, Arsenal have also needed back-ups at both positions for the last few years.

Having said all that, the squad on paper is one of the best in the league. Arsenal have Özil, Alexis Sanchez, Cazorla, Koscielny and Cech – all world-class in their positions. To add to that, Arsenal have beaten both Leicester and Man City in the league, and Bayern Munich in Europe. So yes, Arsenal are good enough to win but we constantly say this. The two factors that hold Arsenal back have nothing to do with quality of the squad, rather they are injuries and game-to-game tactics.
