Can anyone challenge Suarez for PFA Player of the Season?

After another fantastic season in the Premier League, and with Liverpool on the verge of the title for the first time in 24 years, they rightly have three players in contention for this seasons Player of the Season. Along with Eden Hazard, Yaya Toure and Adam Lallana, the Liverpool trio of Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez make up the six, and there appears just one man who can take this trophy.

Luis Suarez. Having missed the first six games of the season through suspension dating back to the ‘biting’ incident, Suarez has had a remarkable season. With three games to go, the Uruguayan forward already has 30 goals in the league, the first Liverpool player to reach this feet since Ian Rush. He’s just been unstoppable. Very few defences have managed to keep Suarez at bay this season, and he’s ever growing into one of the world’s best players. For the first season in a while, Suarez has had nothing else other than playing football on his mind, and he’s gone from strength to strength. Surely no one can beat him to this trophy this season.

Steven Gerrard. Undoubtedly the talisman behind Liverpool’s title challenge this season. The one-club man has had another exceptional year in the heart of the Red’s midfield and , as many have said, is probably the most deserving Premier League player yet to win the title. He’s given his side 13 goals, mostly from the never-ending penalties they seem to have been given this season, but at 33 years old, he’s had his best season since 2005. If Liverpool are to win the title, I see Gerrard being the only rival to Luis Suarez.

Daniel Sturridge.  The final man in the Liverpool trio deserves just as much credit as the other two. Played partly as second fiddle to Suarez since he returned, Sturridge has finally found a club where he fits in. Not suited, or wanted, at Manchester City and Chelsea, and now 24 years old, he has become an England regular. A cert for the World Cup this summer after what has been a fantastic season for the forward. 20 goals in 26 games speaks for itself, putting him only second behind Liverpool teammate Luis Suarez.

Eden Hazard. Hazard’s second season in England and he’s just carried on from where he left off last season. The Belgian winger has been the spark in the Chelsea side that sees them sitting second in the table. Without a top, top striker, Hazard has been the key game changer in the squad. With bags of pace and trickery, and still only 23 years old, Eden has years and years ahead of him to only get better.

STEVEN GERRARD TO ASTON VILLA IS WRONG.

Adam Lallana. What a season for the Southampton midfielder. Now 25 and club captain, Lallana has been at Southampton his whole life and finally, this season he has earnt himself an England call-up, and is now almost a certainty to be on the plane to Brazil for the World Cup. Technically one of the best players in the league based on this seasons performance, and his link up play with Jay Rodriguez and Rickie Lambert has been unbelievable and almost irresistible to watch at times.

Yaya Toure. The only Manchester City representative in the Player of the Season shortlist, and he won’t be too far away from the top. The added addition of Fernandinho into City’s midfield this season has allowed Yaya to express himself in a completely different way. The added attacking prowess has led him to scoring 18 league goals so far this season, making him the third top scorer in the league. Some fantastic free kicks and 30-yard screamers have kept City in the title race at times, and I’m sure that the 30 year old Ivorian will have another top season again next year.

So, for me, there’s only one winner this season. Luis Suarez has powered Liverpool to the top of the league in a season in which they look all but set to take the title back to Anfield. His goals and assists and just general play this season has been on another level, showing the England defence just what he might do to us come Brazil. Oh no.
