Can Andy Halliday become the permanent left-back for Rangers?

Rangers ace Andy Halliday was recalled to the starting XI at the weekend for the 7-1 demolition of Motherwell and once again seized his chance in the side to prove his quality.

The 27-year-old has been in and out of the team this campaign, with his versatility making him a victim of his own downfall at times.

He has been a defensive midfielder during most of his career, but on several occasions this campaign has excelled at left-back and is steady in that position.

Halliday has a decent range of passing and is strong from set-pieces, while the Glasgow-born ace has bounced back from the disappointment of being loaned out last season.

The Scotsman is proving to be an extremely useful player in the squad at Ibrox, but does manager Steven Gerrard need to rethink his role?

Halliday has now made 17 senior appearances across all competitions this season and it looks like he’ll slot into any position asked if he’s needed by the manager.

His experiment at left-back is proving to be a very good one, but it’s hard to see him outperforming Borna Barisic when he returns from a knee injury.

He is an extremely solid and dependable player at Ibrox and Gerrard should have no problem starting him in the crunch games.
