'Can almost guarantee': Journalist claims Arsenal will 'break their transfer record' for new striker

Arsenal have been tipped by journalist Paul Brown to break their transfer record for a new striker this summer.

The Daily Star reporter made the claim on GiveMeSport, with the transfer window just a few weeks away.

There’s a good chance Arsenal will push the boat out for at least one new centre-forward at the end of the season.

The Gunners offloaded Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January and failed to bring in a replacement.

Mikel Arteta has had to make do with just two senior strikers since then – Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.

In addition, both players are out of contract in the summer.

It remains to be seen whether Lacazette and/or Nketiah will get new deals before their deals expire.

But even if they were to stay, Arsenal will need strength in depth if they are to kick on next season.

Can Arsenal finally land “important” high-profile striker?

The Gunners have been linked with several top strikers in recent months, including Gabriel Jesus and Darwin Nunez.

In December, Fabrizio Romano claimed Arsenal are planning to sign an “important” striker who’d become their No. 9 for years to come.

Now, Brown has claimed that the Gunners will splash the cash in order to bolster their centre-forward ranks.

The journalist also feels Champions League qualification will increase the Gunners’ chances of bringing a big-name striker to the Emirates Stadium.

“Arsenal will break their transfer record to sign a striker this summer, I’m convinced of it,” he wrote on GiveMeSport.

“They might buy two. If they were to get a cheaper deal for someone like Calvert-Lewin, it might be that they bring two strikers in of a lower fee.

“But I’m convinced they will try and break their transfer record to bring in a big, top-class, top of the range striker.

“If they’re in the Champions League, you can almost guarantee that they will get one.”
