Can Adnan Januzaj become a Manchester United great?
Adnan Januzaj announced himself to the footballing world with a very impressive debut season in 2013. Strong performances during pre-season saw Januzaj given first team opportunities, and as such he flourished. The young Belgian played a total of 36 matches in all competitions for Manchester United last campaign, scoring 4 and assisting 6. Can this starlet become as successful as the great Ryan Giggs?
His pace, dribbling and overall attacking game drew comparisons to United legend Ryan Giggs. Januzaj proved to be deadly on either flank, as well as playing behind the striker. The 19 year old possesses great vision and passing ability when on the attack, averaging 1 defense-splitting pass per game as well as passing the ball 23 times per match with an 80% pass completion rate. His range of passing is varied, and he is able to pick out a team-mate from nearly anywhere on the pitch. Januzaj uses his dazzling dribbling skills to beat defenders with ease which allows him into advanced areas of the pitch. His crosses are always accurate and put the opposition under pressure.
Quick feet combined with lethal finishing make him a constant threat to opposition defenders and at the age of 19 he possesses great potential for the future. However, he tends to hold onto the ball for a little too long at times; blunting the United attack, and is weak in the air. With age, Januzaj will become more mature which will give him the experience and know-how to play the ball to a team-mate instead of trying to dribble his way out of the situation.
Like Ryan Giggs, Januzaj is surrounded by some of the world’s best players which will allow him to receive advice and grow as a player. Wayne Rooney said during an interview with Inside MUFC Magazine that he often stays after training to help Januzaj practice set-pieces and crosses, also stating that he posses huge potential for the future. The 2014 Fifa World Cup experience also helped him develop as a player as he played 64 minutes during the group stages; invaluable exposure to the world stage at such an early point in his career.
The 19 year old possesses the potential as well as the ability to become a great at Manchester United and I believe he can go on to become as successful as the likes of Ryan Giggs.
Do you agree and think that Januzaj can go on to be among one of the best ever at Manchester United, or that his form so far will be somewhat of a flash in the pan? Let us know in the comments or on twitter @TBRFootball .
