Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with potential moves for a host of young centre=backs in recent weeks. The likes of Matthijs De Ligt of Ajax, Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake, Manchester United’s Eric Bailly and Sampdoria’s Danish talent Joachim Andersen have all been mentioned as potential recruits for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
The reason why is clear. There are still major doubts over Toby Alderweireld’s future at the club whilst Jan Vertonghen is in the final year of his contract. As of March, both players will also be in their 30s and Tottenham will want to start thinking about the future.
But the reports linking them with other players will not be welcomed by one player. Cameron Carter-Vickers was given a show of confidence at the start of the 2016-17 season. He appeared to usurp Kevin Wimmer in the pecking order and it appeared Pochettino was a fan of the American talent.

But first-team opportunities soon dried up. He spent last season on loan at Sheffield United and Ipswich Town. This summer, he was again loaned out, joining Swansea City.
However, Carter-Vickers is struggling for first-team football. With the exceptional Joe Rodon and captain Mike van der Hoorn ahead of him at the Liberty Stadium, he has spent most of his time on the bench in South Wales.
With Spurs looking at other defenders, and the likes of Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez also present, it is hard to see Carter-Vickers having a significant first-team future at Tottenham.
