Cambridge United manager Colin Calderwood is using his links with Aston Villa to secure some loan signings.

Calderwood spent two years as Steve Bruce’s assistant at Aston Villa but is now in charge of League Two side Cambridge.

This month, he has moved to bring in two Aston Villa starlets in Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Jake Doyle-Hayes.

Hepburn-Murphy is a local lad and a talented young striker. But with first-team game time looking limited, the England under-20 starlet has moved to League Two to develop his game on loan.

The 20-year-old has started three games in a row for the U’s but is yet to score his first goal.

If he can find his feet at that level, the goals will soon follow for Hepburn-Murphy, who will be hoping to show Dean Smith that he can step up when Tammy Abraham leaves in the summer.

Doyle-Hayes plays in midfield and is highly rated by the Villans. The 20-year-old is a ball-playing central midfielder who will hope to show his quality in League Two.

The Republic of Ireland under-19 wonder-kid has played three senior games but needs to pick up more first-team experience.

Calderwood can oversee the development of Hepburn-Murphy and Doyle-Hayes, helping them stake a claim for a future first-team spot.
