Calvert-Lewin’s international brace could be bad news for Walcott

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin sent a timely reminder of his talents to Marco Silva last night.

In action for England’s under-21 side, Calvert-Lewin came off the bench to net a brace in a friendly against Denmark’s youth side.

Calvert-Lewin replaced Phil Foden on 61 minutes but still had time to find the net twice.

The 21-year-old nipped in front of his marker to show a striker’s instinct and score with nine minutes left to play.

And then he confidently put away a penalty on 86 minutes to make the score 5-1.

Calvert-Lewin will now hope that this sends a message to Silva as he aims to get back into the Everton starting line-up.

And with Theo Walcott in poor form, Calvert-Lewin’s form could be bad news for the ex-Arsenal winger.

Silva likes to line up with a front three and his current preferred options are Bernard and Walcott on the wings, with Richarlison through the middle.

Richarlison is on hot form for both Everton and Brazil so Calvert-Lewin will be aiming for a spot on the right-wing.

Walcott’s form has been patchy and Calvert-Lewin could take advantage of this.

The England under-21 starlet needs to use this confidence to wrestle his way back into the side and keep his spot.
