Callum Wilson has told The Footballer’s Football Podcast that he was actually quite shocked that Liverpool sold Sadio Mane in the summer, claiming that he would not have been the one he would have moved on.
It is no secret that it has been a tough start to the campaign for the Reds. Jurgen Klopp’s men are through in the Champions League. But their form in the Premier League has been so poor.

They have now lost to Nottingham Forest and Leeds in their last two games. And there is no doubt that it is not going to be a simple fix for Liverpool to get themselves back on track.
Callum Wilson shocked Liverpool sold Mane
There are plenty of issues. But for many, the decision to sell Mane in the summer has really hurt Liverpool. Of course, the Senegalese was a club hero during his time on Merseyside.

They have not looked the same side since his move to Bayern Munich. And Wilson believes that letting him go was a real error from Liverpool.
“When I saw that Liverpool were selling Mane in the summer, I was actually a little bit shocked,” he told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.
“Out of the front three, he wouldn’t have been my choice of who I’d have sold at that moment in time. When you play against Liverpool, he’s the one who you think, if he’s on it, he can destroy you singlehandedly. That was probably the missing piece of the jigsaw.”
Liverpool had their reasons for selling Mane. He was entering the final year of his contract with the Reds. And Mane was seemingly ready for a new challenge when the Bavarian giants came calling.
So it is hard to be too critical of the decision to move him on. His form last season was not as impressive – by his own standards. And had he stayed and struggled, many would have bemoaned the fact that he was not moved on in the summer just gone.
Liverpool need to refresh the squad after so much success in recent years. They are being punished right now for not doing more to improve in the middle of the park.
Selling Mane is now looking like a mistake. But unfortunately, more pieces fell into place when it came to selling him in the summer.
Liverpool will hope that the decisions taken in the previous window ultimately work out for the best.
