Arsenal star Granit Xhaka and Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson were seen having a go at each other when the two sides met in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Gunners came away from St James’ Park with an impressive 2-0 win. Martin Odegaard’s long-range strike in the first half gave them the lead before Fabian Schar’s own goal sealed it after the break.

Arsenal fans are delighted with the result, but many at Newcastle United are furious about how much time the Gunners wasted during the game. Wilson is one of them.

Callum Wilson shares what really happened with Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka

Newcastle United vs Arsenal was a feisty affair last Sunday.

Both clubs went at each other and challenges were flying in from the very first whistle. That resulted in a few players from each side going down in pain.

Arsenal, being the away side and in the lead after just 14 minutes, did slow the game down at every opportunity they got, and that got on the nerves of Newcastle United’s players, fans and staff.

Callum Wilson was not happy at all after Granit Xhaka went to ground just before half-time. The two were seen having a huge argument, and the Newcastle striker has now revealed what actually happened.

The £20 million Magpies star said on the Footballers’ Football Podcast on BBC Sport: “He has sat down with his groin (injury) and he is smiling away like there is nothing even wrong with him. I am like ‘get up’.

“He is obviously just wasting time. I think every one of their players went down at some point and got the physio on. And got up after a couple of minutes of delay. They obviously come with that clear tactic. When you are the home team trying to get momentum in the game, it frustrates you.

“Then you are trying to pick him up and he starts talking. You know what it’s like. You are from the streets, you don’t allow people to talk to you like that. I am like, off the pitch, people don’t talk like this to me, so I am not going to allow it on the pitch.”

It’s no surprise to see that Wilson and co were really frustrated with Arsenal slowing the game down after they took the lead against Newcastle on Sunday.

However, the Magpies are the last team that can complain about this, aren’t they?

At the start of the year, Newcastle went to Arsenal and did the exact same thing, if not worse. At least Arsenal did it when they went a goal up – the Magpies wasted almost half the game in the reverse fixture just to keep the score 0-0.

It will be interesting to see if Xhaka will respond to this in the coming days.
