Callum Wilson sends touching Instagram message to Steve Bruce after Newcastle exit
Callum Wilson has paid tribute to Steve Bruce on Instagram after his exit from Newcastle United was confirmed on Wednesday morning.
Bruce, 60, finally left the club after huge speculation surrounding his future in the dugout. He was handed the chance to manage his 1000th game.
Of those 1000, 97 came as manager of Newcastle. But he only managed to win 28 of those, less than a third. He leaves, with Newcastle sitting in 19th.
The Toon are struggling to find their best form, and after the club completed a £305m takeover – Bruce’s exit from the club was inevitable.
Wilson has posted on Instagram a day after Bruce had left – the man who brought the England striker to Tyneside for a fee of £20million (Sky Sports).
Wilson message: Bruce clearly liked by Newcastle players, not by fans
Bruce’s man management is beginning to shine through, after Allan Saint-Maximin also sent a very touching message to the former Toon gaffer.
It is clear that despite numerous reports of behind-the-scenes aggression and rift, Bruce was well-liked by a number of Newcastle players.
His man management has always been one of his best assets. Unfortunately for Bruce, he simply was not tactically astute enough to appease fans.
Newcastle supporters are aware that their squad is not good as others, but at least show some ambition and try to win matches.
Wilson’s post shows the admiration the Toon squad has for their old manager – but even that, has not saved Bruce from being replaced.
