Callum Wilson has told The Footballer’s Football Podcast that he would have been furious with Richarlison if he was facing the Tottenham star when he started juggling the ball against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Richarlison’s decision to start doing keepie-uppies at the City Ground has caused uproar across football. At the time, Antonio Conte’s side were 2-0 up as the full-time whistle loomed.

The showboating prompted Brennan Johnson to take the Brazilian out with a hard challenge. Unsurprisingly, Johnson was booked for the foul.
Some have criticised Richarlison. And certain radio stations have even held bizarre debates about whether showboating should see players getting a yellow card.

The Tottenham forward has been defended by some, with Neymar amongst those poking fun at those criticising his international teammate.
But you can understand why Johnson took exception with what Richarlison did. And Wilson has claimed he would have been just as livid if he did that against Newcastle. In fact, he said that Johnson did not go far enough.
“If someone does that to us, and we’ve already lost the game and it’s 90-plus minutes, and they’re doing kick-ups and stuff, if I’m anywhere near them, I’m volleying them,” he told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.
“I can’t lie, I’m taking a yellow card and I’m just going to blast them because I think, personally, it is disrespectful. You wouldn’t do that if you were losing 2-0. And you wouldn’t do that if it was 0-0. So don’t do that because you’re winning the game.
“When I saw Johnson do it, I thought yeah man, that’s what I would’ve done as well. But I thought, no I would’ve hit him harder than that. He let him off.”
Wilson would have been furious with Richarlison
Both Wilson – who cost Newcastle £20 million – and Michail Antonio joked that they would have loved what Richarlison did if they were his teammates. And those views almost sum up what seems to be the more sensible takes on what the Spurs man did.
Clearly, Forest would have been frustrated. They were 1-0 down for much of the game. So the second goal would have been a real sickener. And seeing Richarlison juggling the ball would have sent them over the edge.
But it was a moment of arrogance from Richarlison that many will love. He knows he is a divisive figure in football. And he would have surely known that many would hate him doing that.
With that, any criticism coming his way is probably only going to be fuelling the Tottenham man.
And do not be surprised if he does it again – just for those who hated it.
