Callum Wilson has told The Footballer’s Football Podcast that Aaron Ramsdale has been inspired on a few occasions when he has come up against the Arsenal stopper as he discussed the best goalkeeping performances he has faced.
Like many of his Arsenal teammates, Ramsdale has enjoyed a remarkable rise over the last year. It is almost easy to forget now just how much ridicule the Gunners faced for wanting the Englishman in the 2021 summer window.

He had suffered back-to-back relegations from the Premier League when he arrived at the Emirates. And Arsenal already had Bernd Leno in place. So it seemed a baffling decision to spend big money on Ramsdale.
Aaron Ramsdale has been inspired
However, we have all been made to eat the biggest slice of humble pie.

Ramsdale has been a revelation for Arsenal. And it now appears that Mikel Arteta’s men could have their number one for years to come.
Some of the performances he has produced have been unbelievable. And Wilson picked out the 24-year-old while discussing the best goalkeepers he has come up against.
“De Gea stands out to me as someone who’s had some good games that I’ve seen or come up against. I think Ramsdale I’ve come up against and he’s been inspired in a few matches. He’s played well,” he told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.
“And then, your top goalies, your Alissons, people like that, they’re always good shot-stoppers where you think the ball’s past them and then they’ll put something out of the bag.”
Ramsdale has been such a pleasant surprise for Arsenal. His challenge now is to maintain that form now that no-one is surprised to see him produce a world-class save.
He is still developing and learning. He could still be several years away from his peak.
That is a frightening thought. But it also highlights that there are going to be some bumps in the road along the way.
How he deals with those setbacks will say a lot regarding just how far Ramsdale could go in the game.
