Callum Wilson has responded after being asked about reports that Aaron Ramsdale is open to joining Newcastle United from Arsenal in the January transfer window.
Wilson was speaking on The Footballer’s Football Podcast following news that Nick Pope is set to miss the next few months after sustaining an injury against Manchester United at the weekend.
Aaron Ramsdale looks set to have plenty written about him over the next few months. He has lost his place as number one at Arsenal. And he will be desperate to play regularly as England prepare for Euro 2024.
Callum Wilson responds to reports Aaron Ramsdale is open to Newcastle move
Perhaps an opportunity has now opened up.

As reported by The Times, Pope will be out for at least four months after dislocating his shoulder. He came off late on in the victory over Erik ten Hag’s men.
Newcastle are interested in Ramsdale, and the £50 million-rated Arsenal goalkeeper is open to a move. There have also been links with David de Gea, who remains a free agent after leaving Old Trafford in the summer.
Wilson was asked about the links with de Gea and Ramsdale. And he suggested that he could understand why anyone would want to move to St James’ Park.
“Yeah I’m sure everyone wants to come to Newcastle right now. Because it’s a club to be at really,” he told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.
“We’re playing good football, we’re in the Champions League. We’re pushing again this season. We’ve got quarter-finals, we’ve got Sunderland coming up in January, so there’s a lot of appetite for people to want to come and join us.”
Magpies face tough task to convince Arsenal into selling
The problem Newcastle face is that there is little reason for Arsenal to cash in on Ramsdale, particularly in January. Ultimately, they are going for the title again this year. So Mikel Arteta will be wary of letting him go in case David Raya gets injured at any stage.
It is surely only if Arsenal need funds to make moves of their own that they may be willing to cash in on Ramsdale. The Gunners are looking a little light in a couple of areas. So they may be tempted by a good offer for the 25-year-old.
And if the chance to go presents itself, you would imagine that Ramsdale would be tempted to take up the opportunity.
