Aston Villa allowed Callum O’Hare a chance for regular first-team football last week. The 20-year-old has joined Carlisle United on loan until the end of the season. For some Aston Villa fans, that probably feels like a waste.
The talented playmaker is very popular with the Villa fanbase. Comparisons to Jack Grealish are easy to make but he does have the talent to make it as a first-team player at this level. The fact he is a local lad from Solihull also endears him to the Aston Villa crown even more.
At the start of the month, as reported by Birmingham Live, O’Hare was subbed off early in the second-half as Aston Villa were dumped out of the FA Cup in a 3-0 loss to Swansea City.
The Holte End swiftly began to boo the decision and were left frustrated with the move from Smith. Fans feel that he is worthy of regular football and were not happy that he was withdrawn.
“The reason why I took him off is because I’ve seen when a crowd can turn here.
“I don’t want a young lad subjected to that in his first game under me.
“The kid did nothing wrong.
“He’s a talented player and was unfortunately not protected by more senior players today.”
This loan move needs to be a success. For all his talent, O’Hare has never managed to maintain a place in the first-team picture.
Carlisle’s first game since O’Hare’s arrival is next Saturday and Aston Villa fans will no doubt be watching out for O’Hare’s performance.
Hopefully, he can use it as a stepping stone toward better things at Villa Park.
