Leeds United were linked with plenty of names in January. One such player was the Irish winger Callum O’Dowda.
Sky Sports reported that Leeds were considering making an offer for the player as their pursuit of Daniel James continued to look problematic. The report suggested Leeds were ‘looking into a deal’.
With his contract expiring at the end of the season it made perfect sense for Leeds to be keen.
However, it clearly spooked Bristol. They immediately exercised a contract renewal option to ensure O’Dowda remained until at least 2020.
Judging on his current form, Leeds’ interest was certainly justified.

O’Dowda was in and out of the Bristol side earlier this season. Now, however, he is likely one of the first men on Lee Johnson’s teamsheet.
The Republic of Ireland international has been one of the key players in the Robins’ sensational nine-game winning streak which currently sees them fifth in the Championship and in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
O’Dowda has scored four and assisted two goals in that run, which continued with a 2-1 win over QPR last night.
Leeds, who face another missed January target in Swansea’s Daniel James this evening, are now looking like being in a promotion fight with O’Dowda, just a few weeks after being linked with his signature.
If only they could have snatched him away from Ashton Gate.
