Callum Connolly has confirmed on Twitter that he will be leaving Everton on a permanent basis this summer with a heartfelt post to the club and its supporters – prompting plenty of reaction from Toffees fans, as his contract is set to expire in June.

Connolly, 23, only ever managed one senior appearance for Everton but that is largely because he has gone on loan a whopping eight times to Football League clubs. He has turned out for Wigan, Ipswich, Fleetwood, Bolton, Barnsley and Lincoln.

The Everton academy product has spent the last 18 months on loan at Fleetwood, firstly brought to the club by Joey Barton. While Barton has left, Connolly has remained and clocked up 57 appearances for the League One side since initially joining.

This season, Connolly has even donned the captain’s armband in 20 of his 42 outings. His future is now undecided once again this summer after it was confirmed he would be leaving Everton on a permanent basis, with his contract at an end.

Reports from Ipswich fan site TWTD claim that the League One outfit would like to take him back to Portman Road after 35 appearances on loan – but it remains to be seen where Connolly sees his future. Everton fans reacted to his Tweet.

Michael Ball, a former Everton defender, also wished him luck.
