Caleb Ekuban has reportedly attracted interest from both Celtic and Rangers over the past few weeks, but the Trabzonspor striker has told Turkish outlet Fotomac that he feels like he must repay his current side by staying.
Ekuban, 26, joined Trabzonspor on loan from Leeds in the summer of 2018 before that move was made permanently in 2019. He has since clocked up 61 appearances in all competitions for the SuperLig outfit, scoring 16 goals and laying on nine assists.
Indeed, the Italy-born striker has since broken into the Ghana’s national side, scoring two goals in four appearances for the African side. He has a contract until the summer of 2022 for Trabzonspor.
Trabzonspor rate the striker, who can also play out wide and in the role, at a fee in the region of £9million – with Fotomac claiming Celtic, Rangers, Lazio and AC Milan are keen. But when prompted over his future, Ekuban stayed loyal.
“Trabzonspor has added a lot to my career,” Ekuban told Fotomac. “I found myself here and very close to my dream of winning a Championship. My priority is winning trophies with this team”.

TBR’s view – Celtic and Rangers must consider Ekuban’s Leeds form
During his spell in the Championship, Ekuban netted just two goals in 21 appearances for Leeds despite being used solely as a striker. If Celtic and Rangers are of the opinion that they are above Championship sides, Ekuban would suerly flop.
What must also be considered is the dropping standard of the Turkish SuperLig. Perhaps a standard that was on the rise in recent years, it has certainly slipped of late – Crystal Palace flop Alexander Sorloth’s form is a prime example.
Celtic and Rangers should keep tabs on Ekuban, but at £9million, he would be a waste of money.
