Scott Calderwood has sent Rangers a warning over their alleged chase of SC Heerenveen ace Joey Veerman.
What’s the story?
Rangers and their city rivals Celtic were named as two clubs who are interested in signing the Dutchman.
However, Record Sport claims Steven Gerrard’s side are yet to make contact over a move. Serie A outfit Hellas Verona have had a £4.2m bid rebuffed for the ace, but Heerenveen are demanding £8.5m.
And now they are receiving a warning from Calderwood over the talented midfielder.
Speaking to the Daily Record, the Den Bosch coach claimed his price will only rise if he breaks into Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands squad.
When talking about Veerman, Calderwood said: “Joey is a very talented player – very talented. Joey’s technical ability is clear to see. I saw Rangers play against Real Madrid over the weekend and I definitely think he could fit in there.
“He’s not the typical Scottish midfielder who goes from box to box but Joey could thrive under Steven Gerrard and the way his team play. His next move is important. He’s ready to become an international player for Holland. If he keeps developing the way he is, his value is only going to go up.”

Calderwood is right
How many times have we seen in recent years, where a youngster’s value has rocketed after a club has failed to take a chance on him? This is especially true for one specific Dutchman: Donyell Malen.
Arsenal sold the youngster for peanuts after failing to spot his potential. He has now been sold for €30m (£25.5m) to Borussia Dortmund.
While the Gunners were selling, the concept remains the same. Failing to spot a player’s potential could come back to bite you.
And in Veerman, Rangers could be passing up an extremely talented youngster.
Despite being a defensive midfielder, the ace scored seven times and assisted 10 goals in the Eredivisie. It was more attacking contributions than any other Gers midfielder.
Veerman is available for a reasonable price this summer, however, wait any longer and the Glasgow giants could be priced out of a move.
