Conor Coady has lauded Pape Matar Sarr after his moment of ‘outstanding’ quality helped Tottenham Hotspur go in front in the second-half against Aston Villa on Sunday.
Few could have imagined what was about to follow in the second-half after a pretty poor first 45 minutes at Villa Park in the battle between two sides going for the top-four in the Premier League.
The game was sparked into life by a moment of brilliance of Pape Matar Sarr. The Senegalese was played in down the right flank. The 21-year-old has only provided two assists so far this season, so it may have come as a surprise to many when he curled a delicious cross into that corridor of uncertainty.
Pape Matar Sarr outstanding in Tottenham win
Emiliano Martinez did not come for the ball. Instead, James Maddison got his foot on the cross and managed to find the back of the net. And he celebrated by aiming the imaginary darts at the home fans, who had given him some stick in the first-half.

It was superb from Maddison. But speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, Conor Coady was amazed by what Sarr did to set up the goal.
“Absolutely huge. What a cross by Sarr by the way. What a run to start off with from midfield. Running in behind, doing to Aston Villa what Aston Villa did to Tottenham. It’s a brilliant run in behind. And the cross is on a sixpence. It’s brilliant. It’s a great run from Maddison. But the cross does absolutely everything for the goal,” he said.
“The run and the cross from Sarr is absolutely outstanding.”
Piece of quality the game desperately needed
The game was crying out for a moment of real quality. Both sides had almost cancelled each other out during the first-half, with neither Martinez or Guglielmo Vicario given anything of note to do.
Sarr stepped up when Tottenham needed something. And they went on to blow the Villans away, scoring three more times to make a real statement ahead of the business end of the campaign.
