Burke studying Suarez’s game suggests centre-forward role is a long-term plan

Oliver Burke has admitted he has been watching videos of Luis Suarez in an attempt to improve during his time at Celtic, as per the Scottish Sun.

The young Scotsman has been a flying winger for much of his career, but with Celtic light up front, Brendan Rodgers fielded him in attack for the midweek victory over St Mirren, when Burke scored a double in a 4-0 win.

It remains to be seen whether that is a permanent switch, but Burke saying that he has been watching Suarez indicates that it is.

He said: “I’ve looked at clips of players the manager has had who have done really well, like Suarez. Everybody knows what Brendan has done as a manager. He’s amazing and he develops outstanding talents.

“I’m learning a lot under the gaffer and if I keep working hard and training hard, I can only get better.”I know he is the right man and I can develop under him. It’s a great thing for me.”

Burke clearly has great faith in Rodgers and is enthused by the prospect of working alongside him. The Northern Irishman did outstanding work with Suarez and if Burke can undergo a similar scale of transformation then it would be a major shot in the arm for his career.

Burke has all the tools to be a striker – it’s just a case of learning his trade – and it looks like he could be through the middle for the long haul.
