Budding partnership between Perez and Rondon bad news for Muto

Newcastle United star Yoshinori Muto might have to settle with a place on the bench going forwards, as Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon continue to gain a better understanding up top.

The pair linked up well during the 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend, with Rondon crossing brilliantly for Perez to score the Magpies’ goal.

It was a disappointing result for Rafa Benitez, whose side could easily have taken all three points on another day.

At least for the Spaniard though, his attack is looking a bit more threatening now with Perez and Rondon working better together.

One of Newcastle’s biggest problems this term had been scoring goals.

Muto to suffer?

One player who could suffer as a result of Perez working much better with Rondon is summer signing Muto.

The £9.5 million buy from Mainz (Sky Sports) has struggled to make his mark for the club so far.

The Japanese international has made 10 Premier League appearances but he’s mainly been used off the bench, and has not played a full 90 minutes yet.

He hasn’t featured in any of Newcastle’s previous five, with Perez having started four out of those five supporting Rondon.

The 26-year-old will be starting to wonder if he can turn things around, with Joselu seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order too.

Perez doesn’t always show consistency, but has proven in the past he can be a big player for the club in the second half of a season. Last term he scored huge goals against Leicester City, Arsenal, Huddersfield and Chelsea to inspire Newcastle’s 10th place finish.
