Brentford and Leeds United may be two of the sides battling for promotion out of the Championship, but that has not stopped Bryan Mbeumo sending a message to Illan Meslier after the goalkeeper made his league debut for the Whites this weekend.
Meslier went into Friday evening probably expecting to be on the bench for Leeds’ clash with Hull City. However, it was announced less than 24 hours before the game that Kiko Casilla would begin an eight-match ban.

The Frenchman had made one senior appearance following his move to Elland Road in the summer. He gave a fantastic account of himself at Arsenal in the FA Cup in January. But he would have felt the pressure heading to the KCOM Stadium.
It proved however, to be an extremely positive day for Meslier. Leeds kept a clean sheet as they ran out 4-0 winners. And Meslier arguably did well.

The 19-year-old had little to do. But his handling was good when called upon. And his distribution got better as the contest went on.
It was an extremely impressive display considering the circumstances. And it will be a performance that Meslier can certainly build upon in the coming weeks.
Unsurprisingly, the teenager took to social media to express his delight after making his league debut for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
And he has received praise from an arguably unlikely source, with Mbeumo – who has played for France’s under-20s alongside Meslier – sending the stopper a message.
