Bruno Fernandes has told Manchester United’s official website that he hopes that Raphinha will be fit for Leeds United this weekend, but fears that he will not be ready to feature in their clash.
Raphinha missed the Whites’ draw with Liverpool after being taken out in the final moments of their incredible win over Manchester City.
As noted by the Red Devils’ website, Marcelo Bielsa has not yet been able to say whether he will be available for Sunday.
Fernandes played alongside the Leeds star at Sporting. And ahead of the game, he suggested that he would prefer to come up against the winger – hinting however, that he is not sure that will play.
“Unluckily for Leeds, I think maybe he will still be injured at the time,
“ he told the club’s official website. “I hope not. I hope I can play against him but, if I have to put him down in the game, I will put him down!
The relationships stay out of the game. He knows that. He is one of the players who knows me better than anyone. He knows the relationship but even in the training ground, he knows it never counts when we play against each other. If we have to fight in the game, we’ll fight for everything and then go home.
TBR View: Huge boost for Leeds if Raphinha is back for Sunday
Raphinha will surely be doing everything he can to be ready. Leeds have a real point to prove following the first meeting between the two clubs.
They were beaten 6-2 at Old Trafford. Bielsa’s side were still praised. Even when a rout looked to be on the cards, they did not deviate from their way of playing.
It was Raphinha who provided both of the assists for the visitors. And in truth, there were times against Liverpool when Leeds seemed to really miss the Brazilian.
Leeds were superb in the second-half. However, before the break, there were moments when they needed someone to drive them up the pitch. And Raphinha often seems to be that man to take them forward.
