The pressure continued to pile on Steve Bruce after Aston Villa blew a 2-0 lead at home to Preston North End.
A section of Aston Villa fans have been calling for Bruce’s head. And yesterday’s 3-3 draw with Preston was a further indication of their struggles.
Preston were bottom of the league but were buoyed when the Villans went down to ten men.
The Lilywhites recovered from 2-0 down to go 3-2 up, only for substitute Yannick Bolasie to rescue a late point for the hosts.
Aston Villa could have won the contest as well, but Glenn Whelan missed a late penalty.
But once again, Bruce’s tactics were exposed as his starting XI puzzled plenty of Aston Villa fans.
Aston Villa lined up without a recognised winger in their side yet again. And with Premier League standard Bolasie sitting on the bench, that is inexcusable.
The 29-year-old would be a fantastic addition for lower league Premier League teams and Villa are lucky to have him.
With plenty of skill, strength, pace and an eye for goal, Bolasie has the potential to star in the Championship.
But Bruce is yet to hand him a start and he has only accumulated a total of 84 minutes for Aston Villa thus far.
Despite that, he has scored twice so imagine how he would do if he played a full 90 minutes.
Bruce’s decision to play without wingers is one of many signs that Aston Villa need a new manager.
