Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has said – as per the Chronicle – that he hopes some journalists are feeling the heat, after reports he would be sacked.
A statement, shortly before Bruce’s press conference, confirmed that Bruce will remain in charge on Sunday against Tottenham – his 1000th game.
Plenty have been linked with the job. Brendan Rodgers, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Lucien Favre and plenty more, since the takeover.
Asked about reports over his future – with some in the week stating he would be sacked – Bruce gave a fiery response, clearly in defiant mood.
The current Toon gaffer spoke about how the journalists who wrote the reports about his future should be feeling some heat, like he had.

“It hasn’t happened – what you all wanted,” Bruce said. “Let’s hope you are getting stick from the people in charge of your department.
“I hope you guys (journalists) are getting a slap from your bosses, getting a bit of heat. Whoever it was feeding you information, they didn’t get it right.”
Bruce discusses sack reports: Newcastle gaffer still likely to go
Yes, he is remaining in charge on Sunday, but as the takeover continues and the review of the club remains – surely Bruce will end up leaving?
Staveley’s statement read that Bruce will manage Newcastle on Sunday for his 1000th game. She also left the door open for a replacement to come in.
So, regardless of the result on Sunday, the chances of Bruce staying at the club for much after the game against Tottenham remain slim.
Could a win change that? It would certainly make it harder to sack Bruce immediately, and the pressure would turn on the owners to keep him.
