Pundit believes Bielsa can lead Leeds to Europe if squad is built upon this summer

Former England Women’s international Rachel Brown-Finnis believes Leeds United need squad depth if they’re to finish in a European spot.

Speaking to BT Sport via Leeds Live, the 82-capped Lioness keeper pinpointed a lack of fresh legs off the bench as a key reason why the Yorkshire club failed to go that extra step further in their first Premier League campaign in 16 years. Brown-Finnis also said that Bielsa should focus on fleshing out the squad in the summer to get them over the line.

Leeds claimed a resounding 4-0 win over Burnley this weekend as the Elland Road side again proved their ruthlessness in the English top-flight.

Brown-Finnis: ‘You’re going to need a depth of squad’

The Whites look likely to claim a midtable spot in the league standings. And for Brown-Finnis, extra quality and numbers in the squad could be what puts the club into European contention.

Is It Harder To Win Than The Euros Than The World Cup?!

The former Liverpool and Everton star said: “With the style of play that he embodies, you’re going to need a depth of squad to cope with that and the ambitions are to push on to get European football.

“You’re going to need that because it gives more games. He’s going to need more players in his squad but they have been wonderful to watch and I can’t wait to see them again next season.”

TBR View: Fleshed out squad will catapult Leeds into European contention next season

It has been an exceptional first season for Leeds in the Premier League. The Yorkshire club smashed all expectations and looking likely to finish in midtable. Whilst the two teams who joined them from the Championship last season, Fulham and West Bromwich Albion, will return to the second-tier.

And there is reason to believe that more bodies in the squad, as well as more quality in certain areas, could push Leeds over the threshold and put them in contention for a European spot next season. Especially with seventh place now having the potential to qualify some clubs for a spot in the newly-formed UEFA Conference League.
