Bristol City set £30m asking price for Everton and Aston Villa target Adam Webster

Bristol City have set a £30 million asking price for 24-year-old central defender Adam Webster this summer, according to the Bristol Post.

The Sun report that Everton and Aston Villa are among the Premier League clubs chasing the Robins ace but have been hit with an enormous fee if they want to bring him in.

The Bristol Post report says that City are trying to price clubs out of the market and are confident of keeping the defender now.

And if they don’t – because a club has paid out £30 million – Lee Johnson apparently has his own targets lined up to replace Webster.

With the likes of John Stones and Harry Maguire inflating the market for English central defenders, it’s only a natural consequence that the likes of Webster see their valuations go up.

But given that Webster is no longer a snip coming out of the Championship, it appears unlikely that either Everton or Villa – who would need to break their transfer record to land Webster at that value – will land him.

That’s the sensible call – Webster had an impressive season but has no Premier League experience – and would represent a major risk, especially for a newly-promoted side like Villa.
