‘Brings something entirely different’… Paul Merson suggests Spurs may receive ‘massive’ boost against Brighton

Paul Merson has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur are set to receive a massive boost as they prepare to face Brighton this weekend.

Spurs will be looking to get back to winning ways after the disappointment of conceding a late equaliser at Everton last time out. The result put a real dent in Ange Postecoglou’s side’s Premier League title hopes.

What you do have to say is that Spurs have done well since Heung-min Son went off on international duty at the Asian Cup. They have lost just one of their last five games, and that came against Manchester City in the FA Cup. They have also scored eight goals during that run.

Paul Merson says Heung-min Son return is huge for Tottenham

Nevertheless, Spurs fans would be forgiven for feeling conflicted about South Korea’s surprise exit at the hands of Jordan. And speaking to Sportskeeda, Paul Merson suggested that having the captain back is huge for Postecoglou’s men.

“Having Son Heung-min back is going to be a massive boost for Ange Postecoglou. They’ve lacked a bit of cutting edge on the counterattack with Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson, but Son brings something entirely different with his cleverness in the final third. This is a big game for Tottenham as Aston Villa have hit a bit of a snag, so a win would be a massive boost to their hopes of finishing in the top four,” he said.

Ange Postecoglou faces welcome dilemma over forward line selection

It is going to be interesting to see how Tottenham line up once Postecoglou deems Son to be ready to start. They have recently welcomed back James Maddison from injury. Meanwhile, they signed Timo Werner in the January transfer window.

Werner has done well without stealing the headlines since his move. And with Richarlison in fine form right now, Postecoglou will surely opt for Son on the left with Werner dropping down to the bench.

The title may just be beyond them this season. But there is definitely an opportunity to make the top-four this term. And that will give them the platform to really kick on.
