A number of Liverpool fans have responded to Luis Alberto’s comments on his time with the Reds, saying they’d be happy to have him back at Anfield.
The Lazio attacking midfielder was at Liverpool between 2013 and 2016, then Reds boss Brendan Rodgers signing the Spaniard from Sevilla for a reported £6.8million.
Alberto’s spell at Anfield was nothing to write home about as he made just 12 competitive appearances and only had one assist to show for his efforts.
The 27-year-old was also sent out on loan twice, to Malaga and Deportivo La Coruna, before being offloaded to Lazio for around £4million four years ago.
However, Alberto has put his fruitless time at Liverpool behind him to become a fan favourite at the Rome club, claiming an impressive 25 goals and 43 assists in 129 appearances.
This term, he has registered five goals and 15 assists in Serie A, his efforts helping Lazio push Juventus all the way in the Scudetto race.
The 6ft ace has now spoken to France Football about his career, admitting that his Anfield failure is his own fault for not showing the commitment and effort he should have done.
“I think it’s a little bit my fault,” he said. “I didn’t do everything necessary to be at my level in terms of work and focus.
“What I should have done at 20, I was only able to do it at 25. It’s a shame, I lost a few years. I’m 27 now. I’m trying to make the most of it and I think there’s a lot of time left to continue to enjoy myself.”
Quite a few Liverpool fans appreciated his honest comments and reckon he’d now be a good fit for Jurgen Klopp:
It’s crazy how he would probably be our most technical Midfielder if he was here
