Robbie Mustoe has suggested that he is a really big fan of Ben White after the right-back’s performance for Arsenal in their win over Luton on Tuesday.

Mustoe was speaking on The 2 Robbies podcast, noting that he deserves a mention for his display, which included an assist for Gabriel Jesus.

Ben White made his return to the starting lineup against Luton. The 26-year-old missed the win over Burnley, and had started on the bench against Brentford and Wolves.

Ben White deserves mention after Arsenal win

But with Takehiro Tomiyasu sustaining an injury at the weekend, White returned to the side for the trip to Kenilworth Road. And he made an impressive impact against the Hatters.

White set up Arsenal’s second goal of the evening, producing a lovely cross for Gabriel Jesus to head home. Matthew Upson described the assist from White as perfection. And Robbie Mustoe also believes that the England international deserves plenty of plaudits too following the win for Mikel Arteta’s side.

“I thought Ben White deserves a mention as well. The little clip up for the Jesus header was brilliant,” he told The 2 Robbies. “I like Ben White. And I know Tomiyasu’s done a good job. I know he’s out now. But Ben White, yeah, I really like Ben White as a player.”

Boost for Gunners to have defender back in starting lineup

Tomiyasu has been really impressive this season. So it was a big blow to lose him to another injury. Unfortunately, he has struggled to stay fit during his time in North London.

But being able to bring White back into the fold is a big boost. He has been a stalwart of the side throughout his time at the Emirates. And he has formed such an impressive partnership with Bukayo Saka down the Gunners’ right flank.

There have been reports that Mikel Arteta does not view White as a long-term starter in that position. But he is certainly doing a very good job considering that he arrived as a centre-back.

And it is going to take someone special for Arsenal to land an upgrade in that position.
