A number of Glasgow Rangers fans have given their thoughts after the Scottish Premiership club announced that Lewis Mayo has signed a new contract at Ibrox.

The 20-year-old defender came through the ranks at Rangers and has been part of Steven Gerrard’s first-team setup for a number of months.

Mayo featured in pre-season for the Gers first team, most notably against Lyon to help Gers keep a clean sheet against the Champions League semi-finalists.

Last season, meanwhile, he had a spell on loan at Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle, where he impressed prior to Scottish football being halted due to the global health crisis.

Mayo has penned a contract at Rangers until the summer of 2023 and will look to keep forcing his way into the first-team reckoning for Gerrard’s charges.

He is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Light Blues but has been named on the bench on a number of occasions.

“I think I have been fortunate that I was surrounded by a lot of great players, a lot of great staff and a lot of great people in the Academy,” Mayo told Rangers TV.

“It was a time for me to learn about myself and prepare myself for stepping into this level of football. I look back on that time with a lot of fond memories.

“This is huge for me and for my family. I have been at the club since I was seven years-old so Rangers is very much home to me. I am looking forward to seeing what the next few years will hold.”

Plenty of Bears welcomed the news and rejoiced on social media:
